Our Woodwork Journey

Midwest WoodSmithing began as a way to turn a lifelong woodworking hobby into something more intentional. What started in a small shop, working evenings and weekends, grew into a focus on making well-built, practical wood items meant to be used and appreciated every day.

Woodworking has always been about more than just the finished piece. It’s about slowing down, working carefully, and respecting the material. Every board has its own grain, character, and imperfections, and part of the craft is learning how to work with those details rather than against them.

Each piece reflects patience, care, and respect for the material — built simply, built honestly, and built to last. Whether it’s a small gift, a functional home item, or a meaningful keepsake, the goal is the same: create something solid, thoughtful, and made with purpose.

A meticulously hand-crafted walnut jewelry box with dovetail joints and oil-smooth finish, its rich, natural grain visible in exquisite detail. The box sits on a crisp, textured linen runner atop a maple wood table, with neatly stacked wooden bowls and a brass lamp base in the softly blurred background. Natural daylight from a nearby window falls gently across the scene, highlighting the box’s contours and creating gentle, clean-edged shadows. The composition is balanced and structured, shot at a slightly elevated angle with sharp foreground focus. The mood conveys professionalism and refined craftsmanship, embodying a photographic, clean, and modern aesthetic that reflects a high-end woodworking store.

Our Craft Promise

Every piece that leaves my shop is made with the same standards I would expect in my own home. I focus on solid materials, careful joinery, and finishes that protect the wood while letting its natural character show.

I don’t rush builds or cut corners. If a piece isn’t right, it doesn’t ship. The goal isn’t to make the most items — it’s to make pieces that feel right in the hand, hold up to daily use, and age well over time.

What I Make

Midwest WoodSmithing focuses on functional home goods, meaningful gifts, and select custom pieces. Some items are made in small batches, while others are built to order.

Offerings include everyday wood items, personalized gifts, and occasional faith-based pieces — all built with the same care and attention to detail.
